I am fascinated by the social media craze. It is a remarkable opportunity to reconnect or stay connected with friends in what many might say is simply only a “virtual world.” I would suggest that Facebook, Twitter and the like are actually the “real world” and they operate in “real-time.” Jesus said, “The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood (John 1:14 The Message). When you comment on a friend’s post or you direct message some one on Twitter, could it be that in a real and even significant way, you are “moving into the neighborhood” of their life? I believe it is one more avenue or platform that we have in the modern-day to connect in real-time with people we care for, and it can be a powerful reality. You communicate that you see what people are doing and you care and value them as a person. Encourage someone today with a tweet or a post!
Two questions to consider:
-
How are you using social media in your life or ministry?
-
What makes you fearful in speaking into people’s lives through this medium?
